MDG Commitee
Millennium Development Goals Committee (MDG)
OUR VISION
Trinity Cathedral will work to eradicate extreme poverty, as inspired by the Millennium Development Goals
OUR MISSION
Living out our baptismal vows, the mission of the Millennium Development Goals committee of Trinity Cathedral is to help reach the MDGs through:
- encouraging awareness, prayer and support among our congregation, church and governments
- focusing our support for education projects which advance universal primary education, gender equality and the empowerment of women
- engaging personal relationships with our brothers and sisters in global communities.
The MDG Sub-Committee is an outreach program of Trinity Cathedral under the broader umbrella of Trinity Outreach Ministries Committee (TOM). Seven tenths of one percent of the Cathedral operating budget is designated for support of programs approved by the MDG and TOM.. Additional designated gifts to TOM and MDG may also be distributed by these committees. The group meets on the third Monday each month at 6:30 PM at the Cathedral to consider proposals. Periodically, the MDG Committee offers programs of general interest to which the congregation is invited.
The Millennium Development Goals were promulgated in the year 2000 by the United Nations, adopted by the United States Congress and also accepted by the Episcopal Church USA, the Episcopal Diocese of Arizona and Trinity Cathedral Parish. By accepting the challenge of pledging seven-tenths of one percent of our budgets, each of these organizations hopes to accomplish challenging, yet doable goals to combat poverty, reduce hunger, improve health, working conditions and the environments of the poorest nations in the world.

- Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
- Achieve universal primary education
- Promote greater equality and empower women

- Improve maternal health
- Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases
- Ensure environmental sustainability
- Develop a global partnership for development
A prayer
(said before each meeting of the MDG Group)
Most loving God your concern for the poor is unrelenting - draw our concern into yours:
Your concern for the poor is limitless - draw our compassion into yours:
As you long for justice may we also strive for it. Forgive our doubt, forgive our neglect.
Open our eyes to the structures of oppression and free us from apathy and indifference.
Give us courage to accept our responsibility, wisdom to chart a sound course amid complexity, perseverance to finish our work, and the gift of your Spirit to do what alone we cannot do.
So may we serve you to the honor and glory of your Name and the wellbeing of your beloved people throughout the world.
